We organize many special events and workshops, as well as we have regular weekly events, that will keep YOU ( yes, I'm talking to You ) from getting rusty! Come out to any of the events, and I personally guarantee that you will have a good time! Even if you don't feel like dancing, it's fun to hang out, have a few drinks, and, in many cases, listen to live jazz music! Check out our special and regular events!

March 20-21st is our spring workshop with Jeff and Brooke. Saturday is in the McInnes Room, and Sunday is in Studley Gymnasium. Join us Saturday 8-10 for some social dancing in the McInnes Room as well. Expect to see a workshop, Soiree, and some live bands in this winter semster!

The weekend of November 14th was our workshop in the first semester; and it was a blast... Come and learn to Swing from Geoff and Andrea who are flying in all of the way from Ottawa!.

Clear your schedules for the 27th of November for a big community event ...there will be dancing!

Workshop with Geoff and Andrea
Nov 15 + 16 weekend 2008

Geoff and Andrea are two absolutely amazing dancers/swing instructors/ people, and we are lucky to have them come all the way from Ottawa this Fall! This workshop, which has now become an annual tradition features almost 5 hours of dancing for each beginner and intermediate day!

Grawood Night
Evening (TBA), October 24th @ Grawood in the DAL SUB

Join us for some live music, a quick beginner East Coast swing lesson and a few hours of dancing fun! We welcome everyone to come out, relax, have a drink, relieve some of that midterm tention, and break it down like it's 1930's!! Bring a friend and your picture ID ( it is a bar after all ).

Matinee of Dancing
Morning (TBA), October 19th @ location TBA

This event is intended for intermediate dancers, and even though content is TBA, and going to be fantastic!

Soiree of Dancing
7-10 pm, October 18th @ the Church

This event is intended for beginners to work on technique in small groups, and to get some individual attention from advanced dancers. The event is open to all members of DSDS.

Fall 2008 Class Restart & Social Dance
7-8:30 Saturday Sep 6 & 13, @ Kings Gym dance studio

It's time to go back to school, which means that it's time to go back to swing!

No matter if you are a complete beginner or an experienced dancer, join us for our beginner drop-in classes followed by a social dance on Saturday, September 6th and Saturday, September 13th. If you have never done swing before, it will be a perfect opportunity to come and try it out for yourself! And for those of you who haven't done much swing over the summer months, it's a perfect opportunity to get back in shape and recall all the long-forgotten moves!

The lesson & social will take place at the Kings Gym Dance Studio. If you don't know hot to get there, check out this map

April 5 2008 - AGM & Season End Social Dance
7-10 at the Church

The time has come. Spring semester is ending and so are our lessons this term. We are inviting everyone for Dalhousie Swing Dance Society Annual General Meeting and the End of the Season Social.

The Social Dance

We'll be playing some sweet tunes, there will be plenty of free food and refreshments, and I (personally) promise a good time. Feel free to dress up for the occasion, but no pressure.

The AGM

Ok, let's talk business. It is time for the elections for all exec. positions for the next year. All positions are for grabs, and they are:

President (Very important figure)
Vice President (Almost as important as the President, but not quite)
Treasurer (Money stuff)
Secretary (Central communication figure)
Member at Large ( multiple positions available )
Webmaster ( That's ME!)

Come and get them! We ask all members to participate, because even if you are not running for positions, you role as a voter is very important.

March 15 & 16 2008 - Geoff & Andrea Workshop
Location Outlined Below:

Saturday = Beginner class
10am - 5pm in the upstairs room in the First Baptist Church. Come in the side door and march yourself straight upstairs

Sunday = Intermediate class and gutsy beginners
9am - 3pm in the Studley dance studio, underneath the studley gym, University Ave, across from the Killam Library and next to the Economics department. That's the best I can do.

Please come at least 10min early so that we don't miss out on any of our great dancing plans

The cost: $20 for 1 day or $30 for both days



Nov. 30 2007 - Grawood Night
Grawood, Student Union Building, 7-10 PM

Join us for some live music, a quick beginner swing dance lesson and a few hours of dancing fun! We welcome everyone to come out, relax, maybe get a bevarage to loosen up the pre-exam tention, and break it down like it's 1930's!!

The cost: $2 admission



Nov. 10,11 2007 - Workshop II
Location TBA

The Saturday will be at the level of those attending our beginner class and the Sunday for those looking for a challenge / intermediate class. An instructor from out of town will be here to teach a new perspective on swing.
The cost: TBA

The schedule has not yet been decided, but it could include:

-Blues
-West coast swing
-Lookin' cool & styling
-Body leads
-Beyond the basics
-Performance swing


Oct. 20, 2007 - Workshop I
First Baptist Church (see map)

There will be a workshop on Sat 20th from noon-5pm.
The cost if 5$. Please e-mail Stephanie to reserve a spot!

Some of the workshop goals are:

-Individual or small group help
-New moves!
-Leading and following
-The technical aspect to swing
-Teaching opportunities for the intermediate dancers


A great opportunity for beginners to pick up some cool moves and quickly improve their skills.


Sep. 18, 2007 - Society Fair
Student Union Building

We will have a table at the Society Fair, so if you have any questions/concerns, come find us!


Sep. 15, 2007 - Season Opening Social Dance!
King's Aerobic Studio - Basement of King's Gym (see map)

This will be a fun social dance, for all those who can't wait to get back on the dance floor! We will have pizza and such, so it's in your best interest to come out! Besides, it's always exciting to see the good old swing crowd!

Everybody is welcome, but keep in mind that it is a social night only, which means that there will be no instruction, and we will NOT be accepting any membership payments yet - this can wait till the first day of drop-in classes which is Sep.22
