It's summer! No more lessons till the fall, but still lost of swing to be doing! Bearley's Saturday nights, Coconut Grove Thursdays from 7:00 through 9:00, and Waterfront Dancing on Bishop's Landing Sundays to be starting shortly!

The AGM will be held at the church this Saturday. There are no swing lessons planned for the summer, but there will still be swing at Coconut Grove on Tursdays.
There will be a live band recommended by one of our members.

I am sorry about the death of one of our members and a friend, Holly Bartlett . She was a wise and kind individual, and a pretty decent follow, she will be missed.

This weekend, March 20th-21st, 2010 is our spring workshop with Jeff and Brooke!
Saturday 10-5 is beginner, and Sunday 9-4 is advanced.
The price is 25 for one day and 40 for two. Please come early to register.

Join us for social dancing at the McInnes Room whether you attended the workshop or not! 8-10pm.

February 22nd at Grafton Street Dinner Theatre 1pm there is a free show involving our very own Beth Harris. It is part of a pre-professional training program with Neptune Theatre. Sure to be a blast!

Lessons are beginning for the new semester! Last day for Registration is the 16th of January. This means our last free trial lesson is this Saturday. For dal and king's students the price is $15 for one semester, and $18 for two classes in one semester. For members of the community the price is $17 for one semester, and $20 for two classes in one semester.
We encourage both University Students, and members of the community to join our society.
We are introducing a new class this semester to accomodate our growing society. Advanced. Thus the criteria for each class is as follows. Beginner-new people, or those who are uncomfortable with their dancing from a previous semester; Beyond Basics- those who have been dancing at least one semester, and would like to move on. Intermediate -those who have been dancing in Beyond Basics for a while. Advanced- advanced, see Mike or Niko.
Beginner and Beyond Basics will be run in tandem Saturdays at seven in the church. Intermediate and Advanced will run in tandem at 8:35.

Swing Classes Saturday nights at the First Baptist Church will begin shortly. The first classes are to try it out. Anyone can come for free.

Come Swing With the Fishes at Pier 21 on Friday from 8 o'clock on. There will be a beginner East Coast Swing lesson at 8:30, so join your friends, and dance the night away! Tickets are $15 dollars, and they are available from Fred our treasurer, or from Atlantic News (5560 Morris Street. (The one with the wagging dog's tail)) You can also buy them at the Dalhousie Student Union Building on November 13, 17, 20 and 26. Tickets are $20 at the door.The Shirley Jackson Band will be playing.
There will be a cash bar.(dry)

The last day of swing classes for the semester will be on the 5th of December.

This week we are back at the church! There will, hovever, be no regular classes as there is a Geoff and Andrea workshop. Spaces for Saturday are going really fast, so e-mail Robin to arrange to guarantee your spot. This includes paying the workshop fee: $40 for the Beginner (Saturday, 10am-5pm at church) and Intermediate (Sunday, 9-4pm at Studley) workshops, or $25 for one. Alternatively, you can show up early on the day of to pay.
In keeping with tradition, there will be a social dance at the church at 8 o'clock on Saturday.

This Wednesday is Rememberance Day. So come out and join us at Pier 21 from 12-3.

Coconut Grove is our newest social dancing locale! Thursdays from 7-9pm are swing nights, the cover is $5 (this includes a free drink). Don't worry if you are underage, as long as you plan to leave at nine.

If you would like to join our Choreography team, then talk to Mike our President. The team meets in the Studley Dance Studio Monday nights from 9:30-11pm.

Keep checking the website for more news on our new temporary venue. It is likely that in addition to tonight we will be in the Studley Dance Studio for the next two weeks.
★This includes Halloween! Costumes are encouraged.★
The studley Gym Dance Studio is at 6185 South St.; (it is the building with a neat roof beside Wickwire Field.) Click here for a map.
Beginner Lessons will be held on Saturdays from 7-8, with social dancing from 8:30-9:00. Beyond Basics will then be held from 8:30-9:30pm. Intermediate Classes will resume when we return to the church, so come on out to Beginners/Beyond Basics!

Do not worry if you haven't been receiving E-mails from Robin, and you have given us your e-mail. The mailing list is currently being revised, and the new version should be done by Wednesday. If you would like to join our mailing list then you should e-mail Robin at dalswing@gmail.com.

If your free on the 11th of November (Remembrance Day) then you might want to head down to Pier 21 for some swing alongside with other historically themed events (WWII.) Swing will be going on from 12-3. Feel free to dress up in historically themed attire if you happen to have it laying around.

The Exec. is hard at work finalizing the location and date for our social at the end of November, so stay tuned!

We had a great run... but Minstrel's has closed. Don't fret if you are hankering to show off your dance moves in a social setting. We might just have something exciting up our sleeves for the 27th of November. (Hint hint, clear your schedules!) And don't forget about the Rememberance Day dancing out at Pier 21! Swing will be going on from 12-3 pm.

Thanksgiving is a time of celebration, and if you are in town this Saturday, this includes Swing Dancing! Special lessons at our regular times will be held to celebrate, and to make sure that those of us who are back home don't miss out on the regular course material.

Yes, for those of us who know that although it's the eary bird that catches the worm, it is the early worm that gets caught... we will have our trusted Finance Executive Fred on duty before class tomorrow the 3rd for Registration.

Exciting News for the swing enthusiast or eager up and commer:
Minstrels Gastropub on Spring Garden (Click on photo for map) will be hosting Swing nights Wednesdays at 7pm. The first night is the 23rd. All members of the society or of the community at large are welcome. This includes underaged first years, and those who have never danced before! The address is 5472 Spring Garden Rd.

There are two Saturdays left to try out our regular swing nights! These are the 19th and the 26th of September! Come join us with no commitment as Jill and Niko teach you how to burn up the dance floor. Saturday nights have lessons from 7-8pm with a half hour of social dancing afterwards. There are also classes for the more experienced Swing dancer.
There will be opportunity to register during the next two Saturday night sessions. Once again, the fee is $12 for students of Dal or King's, or $15 for members of the community.
We recommend you bring shoes with backs, preferrably with slippery soles.

Hey Dancers! come dance with us today (Wednesday the 9th) in front of the Student Union Building from 1-3! Dust off those dancing shoes and come show the campus what we're all about, or come and check out just how much fun it is to Lindy Hop and Charleston!

Also, come out to to the Kings Society Fair on Friday, September 11th from 11 - 3:30 in the King's Quad or check us out at the Dalhousie Society Fair on Monday, September 14th from 10 - 3 in the Student Union Building.

We are pleased to announce that our first lessons start this Saturday, September 12th at 7:00 PM at the Baptist Church on Oxford St. (If you don't know where that is, a map can be found here)

Our first three lessons are free-to-try! After the lesson on Saturday the 26th, we will start with progressive lessons. You will not be able to drop in after this point. So come for the first three and reconnect or see what we're all about! Even if you're a more advanced dancer, come on out and meet the new folks and get back into the swing (ha ha) of things.

Fees for this term will be the same as last year. The incredibly low price of $12/student, $15/general public.

For those returning dancers, Intermediate will begin September 19th, 8:30 - 9:30 upstairs. Beyond Basics will begin September 26th at 7 PM upstairs.

Please bring a pair of non-marking indoor shoes!

It has been exactly a month since I last posted a message... Weird! Thank's everone for patiently waiting for the information on classes. As of right now I cannot tell you much, but all the details will be finalized an posted here on Wednesday, September 9th.

However we do have the info for our first free drop-in lesson & dance: it will be on Saturday, September 12th at 7pm at the First Baptist Church <-- Click on the link if you need directions. Remember! no experience or partner required.. and it's free! And of course, I personally guarantee that you will have a good time!
