Who We Are: Society Profile
We are a bunch of university students in Halifax trying to keep great music and dancing alive. Among the members of the society there are students of all possible faculties, and members of the community of all ages. Although DSDS "officially" is both a Dal and Kings society, as we are funded by the Kings/Dalhousie Student Unions, anyone is more than welcome to join!
Meet the Executive!
(This section currently under construction; check back soon!)
Mike loves to blues dance while amazing people with a move he calls the "Pretzel Dip." He's the President, but watch out if he asks for a dance because his other favourite move is the 520 degree swingout... but not the 720 swingout because, "720 would just be crazy!"
Niko really digs the blues. He's the Kings VP, and he's in charge of organizing the classes for this coming year. Next time your on the dance floor, ask him to teach you the "Classy Swingout," as it's his favourite move!
Lynne can be seen in Mark's photo. Perhaps the cameraman was a bit shy approaching our beautiful VP Dalhousie.
Irenee loves Lindy Hop! Especially the crazy dip above. But when leading she'll often enjoy whipping out any move involving the "cuddle." She's the Webmaster, so feel free to ask her anything you may need to know!
Mark is a real hipster. His versitality doesn't only shine through on the dance floor, but shows in his job as a Member at Large.
Robin has suconsciously wanted to learn the art of Lindy with two follows all her life. (Irenee being one of them.) She doesn't know it yet, but it would be a blast. As secretary she will help hold everything together.
Fred is our treasurer. He loves to tandem Charleston with his all time favourite follow Irenee. If you have money, he's the man to take it from you.
Ian is also a Member at Large. He must have been too busy doing stuff at large to get his picture taken. Don't worry ladies, you'll all be able ot see his smiling face shortly.
Our Purpose
Our goal is to provide a healthy and fun social environment for those interested in swing dancing and swing music, by organizing classes, workshops and social events. Ultimately we are really excited to show Halifax's community how much fun swing dancing is, and to get more people on the dance floor!
Our History
DSDS has now been around for quite a few years. The society was founded by the great Emily Inrig in the fall of 2003, and it grew tremendously over these years. Each year we expanded on number of classes we offered, number of workshops we organized, different social events we hosted. DSDS is always active and every week swing enthusiasts meet to dance, hang out and have a good time!
Our Operations
DSDS is a non-profit organization, a student society ratified by Dalhousie Student Union and Kings Student Union. This means that we have an official constitution, which describes all procedures of our operations. Every year we host 2 general meetings, one at the beginning and one at the end of the school year, where Executive members are elected. These people are in charge of dealing with finances, organizing events, coordinating class schedules, communication with instructors, answering emails and other fun stuff!

Our Policies
We want to provide a healthy and fun social environment. Due to the flirtatious and sexy nature of the dance, we take a strong position with regards to sexual harassment. The complete version of Dalhousie sexual harassment policy can be found
